Support the Fruit Crops Diversification Program

    Welcome

Florida's mild winter climate and early spring season create unique opportunities for early-season fruit crop production. The state is known for producing some of the earliest commercial-quality strawberries, blueberries, and peaches in North America. Farmers interested in diversifying their crops need to identify varietals that perform well in different growing regions of Florida. Small farms and local markets are the backbone of agriculture in many counties throughout the state. Crop diversification can enhance the viability of these small farms and local markets. Fruit crops like persimmons, figs, pomegranates, passionfruit, and cold-hardy citrus have significant commercial potential for small and local growers in Florida. However, a major limitation for Florida producers is the lack of available production practices and recommendations.

Our Fruit Crops Diversification Program is dedicated to expanding the variety of crops we to promote sustainable agriculture and meet the changing demands of the market in Florida. We focus on a wide range of fruits, including passionfruit, persimmons, pomegranates, figs, and more. By diversifying our crop selection, we aim to enhance resilience against climate challenges and offer a diverse selection of fresh, high-quality fruits. We are actively involved in extension activities, working closely with local farmers, extension agents, and the community. We regularly conduct field days for different crops, providing valuable hands-on experience and knowledge sharing to support the growth and success of the agricultural sector in Florida.
